Our wine estate in Luberon, in the heart of the Vaucluse region

Arnia, an estate located in the Luberon region,
welcomes you to the land of the perched villages and blue skies, a land of mixed cultures and brewing, where a thousand-year-old way of life has been brought to this day by the wine and olive cultures.

The Arnia estate’s vineyards stretch for around fifteen kilometres between Apt and Cavaillon, two towns founded by the Romans and located along the Via Domitia, a road that has linked Italy and Spain for over two thousand years and crossed the Calavon River at the Pont-Julien bridge at the mouth of the Roquefure gorge.

Spread across the communes of Bonnieux, Goult and Oppède, our plots overlook the Calavon valley (known as Coulon from Robion onwards), a capricious torrent that rises in the Alpes de Haute-Provence and flows into the Durance, tinting its waters with its ochre colour. Ochre like the cliffs of Roussillon, a neighbouring village, world-famous for its beauty but also for having welcomed Samuel Beckett during the Second World War.

Our region is a land of light and biodiversity, an artist’s palette composed of blue horizons, yellow expanses such as fields of wheat and sunflowers in bloom, purple stripes drawn by rows of lavandin, white clouds formed by cherry blossoms, and a brown, green and red mosaic when the vine leaves begin to change colour with the first frosts.

Comprising 12.5 hectares of vines, including 5.3 hectares of AOC Luberon, 6 hectares of AOC Ventoux (no longer called Côtes… for either one) and 1.3 hectares of IGP Méditerranée (the former Vins de pays of Vaucluse), the estate is located in both the northernmost part of the Luberon and the southernmost part of the Ventoux.

A few articles about our wines…

We are delighted that our Luberon rosé 2023 and Ventoux white 2023 have been selected by Véronique Raisin (Corcovino), Roberto Pétronio (La Revue du Vin

Year 1

Only one cuvee

Aoc ventoux

Year 1, the year of lockdown, is a Ventoux rouge from the 2020 vintage, mainly composed of Grenache Noir produced in Les Patys and Mourvèdre harvested on the Gardi hill. These two lieux-dits are located in the commune of Goult, the stronghold of the d’Agoult family, who ruled the region throughout the Middle Ages.

Year 1, as its name suggests, is our first cuvée. It was harvested by machine on Saint-Michel Day 2020 (29 September) and then vinified in the new workshop of the Bonnieux cooperative winery. It was bottled on 21 July 2021. We spent several days working on the label design, bearing in mind that you never get a second chance to make a good first impression.

Year 2

Ventoux Rouge and Luberon Rosé

Year 2 was the year of frost. Around 8 April 2021, a cold snap hit many European countries, including the south of France. Fortunately, in the Calavon Valley, budding is quite late, and only the plots in Oppède had begun to grow when the cold weather destroyed six months of work… and with it, an entire year’s income. This does not mean that the frost did not affect the other plots, but as they were still in the budding stage, the damage was less severe.

By mid-September 2022, part of the harvest had already been brought into the vats of the cooperative winery…

Year 3

Ventoux Rouge and Ventoux blanc

Year 3, 2022, was a year of extremes. Extreme heat, with a summer reminiscent of the 2003 heatwave. Extreme drought, with only a few drops of rain throughout the growing season. Extreme precocity, with harvesting beginning in some parts of the department as early as mid-August.

It was also a year of excessive work, it must be said, to launch the wines of Domaine Arnia. To make them known, to present them to the press, to professionals, to influencers and, of course, to consumers.

Year 4

Ventoux Rouge and Blancet Luberon Rosé

Year 4 also saw recognition of the quality and character of our various wines by the media and specialist guides, as well as the preview presentation of the 2022 Arnia white wine during a stage of the French blind tasting championship organised by the Revue du Vin de France in Vinsobres in the Drôme Provençale.

In 2023, we will have produced a Ventoux blanc for the second time, composed of 65% Clairette (our favourite white grape variety), 20% Grenache blanc (for character and generosity), and 15% Vermentino (for aromatic freshness). Tonic, fruity, long and delicate, it goes well with oysters and shellfish, as well as white meat, sea fish, fresh goat’s cheese, Bleu de Gex and other blue cheeses.
